Description:

The Glassworks Museum brings to life an important epoch of Swedish industrial history. Life in Surte was dominated by the glassworks from 1862 to 1978.

Step back in time to an industrial community filled with tales from an era when the glassworks was at the centre of local life. Experience the working environments and leisure pursuits of bygone days - on the factory floor, in the local store an in the workers' home.

See the exhibition SAND SODA LIME, wich charts the life of Alexander Samuelson, who learned the glassblower's trade at Surte. At the age of 20, as an accomplished craftsman, he emigrated to the United States. In 1915 he put his name to the patent application for a bottle manufactured for The Coca-Cola Company. the boy from Surte had found fame and fortune in America, and given the world its very first patented package solution
